Naval Architect
At Teignbridge Propellers I gained an extensive knowledge of marine sterngear and associated components. The theory gained from my degree was complemented by tuition from various senior naval architects with experience of working in the engineering section.I designed numerous propellers with a very high success rate during sea trials. My duties included detailed designing of complete shaft lines and associated components both to standard, custom and classification design plus advanced design of high performance rudder and shaft brackets. A thorough understanding of our manufacturing processes was essential to ensure an efficient and cost effective design and manufacture of components.I designed and submitted propellers and stern gear to all the Major Classification societies. I regularly performed resistance, speed and powering estimations including selection of appropriate engine powers and gearbox reduction ratios. I visited many customers both in the UK and abroad to attend sea trials, present information, attend trade shows, discuss customer design requirements, advise on hull design to ensure efficient integration of sterngear components and further the company market share.I am proficient in many software packages including AutoCAD, Rhino and Delcam Powershape 3D modeling software and Avante Materials Requirements Planning.
