About Ben Ramsden
Throughout my life I’ve always embraced the principle that it's best not to wait for change, but create it. As we peer over our planetary boundaries, I believe wholeheartedly that we are standing at the foothills of a new economy that rewards social, environmental and financial performance equally. I’ve been exploring some of the soaring peaks and plunging valleys of this new economy for the past 20 years across all tiers and many geographies of the supply chain. It’s now time to bring to the world the reality of the regenerative, inclusive and resilient supply chain systems that will enable this new economy and embrace the myriad opportunities they will unlock. It's a challenging journey, but the work we're doing at the UK's Digital Supply Chain Hub is charting a new path through the complexity with some like minded leaders across Industry, Government and Research. Do get in touch if you would like to join us or learn more about what we do.

Partnership Manager - Digital Supply Chains
CurrentI lead partnerships for the UK's Made Smarter Innovation: Digital Supply Chain Hub representing a £25M investment by Government and Industry to transform UK manufacturing by accelerating digital innovation – making supply chains more efficient, resilient and sustainable. We're here to move the market, and not compete with it.We do this by working closely with leaders across Government, Industry and the research community to build a portfolio of digital solutions to deliver against a roadmap set by industry. To test these solutions and deliver real world business & ESG impact, we are establishing 4 digital supply chain open innovation test beds (a world first!) across FMCG, Hydrogen, Textiles and Automotive spare parts where we aim to unlock c.20% efficiency gains for all participants. Once proven, we aim to then drive adoption of these solutions through our ecosystem of 500+ companies that we are currently engaging with before scaling our model internationally. Collaboration, sustainability and resilience are at the very heart of what we do, and we're keen to work with others who share the same passions. Please don't hesitate to get in touch!
Partnership Manager For Food & Drink
I have developed and am now delivering the company's strategy for digitalising the Food & Drink sector from resource to retail to help companies optimise productivity and become net positive. This involves working with the leading academic, public and commercial partners to develop and deliver solutions that enable the early adoption of advanced technologies. We work across IOT and Future Networks, distributed ledger technologies and business models, artificial intelligence & machine learning as well as augmented, mixed and virtual realities. If this sounds exciting to you, then get in touch because it really is!
Advisor
After co-founding the company securing investment, clients, strategic partnerships and an international pipeline of factories ready to be on-boarded onto the platform the foundations for growth were in place. So after we were accepted onto the TechStars Metro accelerator programme, I took the opportunity to move to an advisory role for the company. I remained an active shareholder in the business, provide insight and strategic guidance around community development and impact until it's closure.
Community Development Officer
I ran OrganiMark Europe, a value chain engineering and category management company, established in 2008 in South Africa, with extended business platforms in Southern Africa (SADC), Europe and the USA. Working with Governments, brands, processors and producers we have developed a world-class resilient sourcing and optimisation model that combines sustainability, rapid response and technology to deliver unprecedented levels of cost savings, transparency, impact and marketing collateral across tens of millions of garments annually.
Chief Community Officer / Co-Founder
My role was to drive adoption of the platform through mobilizing a global community of users who experience exceptional business improvements as a result. Fantastic customer service, stunning marketing and mutually beneficial relationship management of all our stakeholders were the lifeblood of this role and combine all of my core strengths. However, it didn't work out.
Founder
Developed this value chain system in order to optimise production and measure, monetise and maximise the social, environmental and financial benefit (the 3 dimensions in the system) to communities along the supply and distribution chains of the global fashion industry. Results were communicated through a social, environmental and financial accounting system incorporating a 3D balance sheet, 3D profit and loss account and a 3D price. This included a consortium of partners who delivered world class systems for data collection and analysis, supply chain mapping, production management and optimisation, and natural and social capital valuation. Clients included C&A foundation and Fairtrade International but nothing, as yet, has been made public as we failed to develop the business model properly.
Founder
Launched as a charity to support the weakest links along textile supply chains with an innovative approach to integrated social, environmental and financial benefit for all stakeholders. Projects included the first organic and fairtrade farmer owned seed production and distribution organisation, garment factory living wage methodology development and execution, supply chain finance innovation, supply chain impact measurement systems and demand alliance development.
Founder
Launched as part of the Make Poverty History youth movement in 2005, I set up and ran “Pants” as an experiment to prove how fashion can change the world from cotton to bottom. I built the brand without ever selling equity but by using powerful and disruptive branding and campaigns, secured huge amounts of probono support, developed innovative financing solutions enabling us to deliver wholesale sales into 25 countries and online retail into over 50. Sourcing directly through intimate relationships with farm villages and cooperatives, Pants pioneered many initiatives and established itself as one of the key pioneers of the ethical fashion movement. Pants eventually went bankrupt and she failed to resuscitate.
Founder
Launched to support the Gazelle Group of Further Education colleges. Selected as a Gazelle Entrepreneur for the group, I developed Pantrepreneur as an entrepreneurial education competition in which over 2,000 students participated and it is estimated that over 100,000 students engaged with it over time. The venture engaged members of the colleges at all levels from Principal, department heads, tutors, students, parents and the general public in a curriculum that saw students compete in the establishment of an underwear company and, the winning team per college embarked on an aggressive sales and marketing campaign, culminating in the opportunity to win a trip to India to live and work with the farmers and factory workers who made the underwear they sold in the programme. With crushing government cuts in the FE sector, the programme was put on hold after 3 fabulous years.
International Mobilisation Coordinator
I joined as one of the first members of the international mobilization programme that was established to radically increase the people and activism in the movement in the global south. Directly responsible for coordinating thte mobilization and organisational strengthening of 24 international offices, my role involved negotiating support from across all departments of the international secretariat and local civil society actors assisting with business plan development and fundraising of each of the offices in my portfolio. The main bulk of my work however was to relaunch the bankrupt Amnesty South Africa and Amnesty Zimbabwe organisations. This meant that I led on the closure, repositioning, business plan development, fundraising, restaffing and relaunch of both organisations. AI South Africa was transformed into a very active organisation in the HIV/AIDS movement, while AI Zimbabwe is now one of the leading organisations delivering Human Rights education in the country.
Founder
A culturally sensitive income generation venture that I set up after living and working with the Patamona and Macushi tribes from Region 8 in Guyana’s interior. Whilst working at Jesuit Missions, I organised for a team of 15 friends to run the London Marathon in just loin cloths and body paint with me. With the £20,000 we raised, we put several people through university, supported health care and education in the community and established a small fair trade pilot sourcing traditional crafts from the community and selling them through museum networks and schools. There remains a significant amount of funds held in the community to be used at times of emergency.
Founder
This was my first venture when I was around 8 years old. We sold sweets, music and eventually shares. Sadly the venture was shut down by the headmaster as it was “not appropriate for students to have school staff as their customers”, however not before I managed to earn enough to buy my first cricket bat and pads.
