Having started in this role over 13 years ago as a Junior Perl developer, I worked my way up to become a Senior Developer working mostly with Java. Most of the projects are bespoke and have their own unique tech stack – albeit with a few similarities.My achievements/responsibilities in this role include: • Created distributed JMeter tests with custom Groovy libraries to test performance of various APIs, using AWS CLI to combine server metrics, and using NewRelic to find/identify performance bottlenecks. • Added Docker support and documentation to many legacy products to enable continued support on out-dated libraries/OS. • Optimizing performance: ◦ Normalizing DB schema in legacy product to reduce table size from 10gb to 3gb and query time from 35s to <0.5ms. ◦ Reviewing query plans to build effective queries and add suitable indexes. ◦ Introduced multi-threading to Spring Boot data migration application – reduced run time from an aborted attempt at >5 days down to 25 hours. ◦ Leveraged Hibernate and Redis caches, and Postgres Materialized Views to reduce memory usage/leaks, and increase site capacity from ~600 to ~1000 requests per minute, while reducing average response time from ~2000ms to ~400ms. • Working with new and legacy products with a variety of tech stacks: ◦ Implementing and delivering new features on time/budget. ◦ Maintaining and supporting products/features. ◦ Working closely with the team and clients/end-users to build specifications and provide technical support where necessary. ◦ Writing effective Unit/Integration tests. ◦ Using Jira for epic/bug/feature/task management, workflow and release notes. ◦ Using Confluence to manage system-critical documentation ◦ Application deployments for QA, UAT and Production. ◦ Management/configuration of internal/external hosts. ◦ Peer review of other developers’ work.

Maintaing and extending intranet site to administer insurance policies and interface with other systems.The sites were Perl CGI running on Apache server which generated HTML pages with JavaScript. Data was stored in a MySQL database.Created/scheduled nightly backup of remote databases over ssh connection.Worked closely with the business and end-users to define new features, UI behaviour and work through QA/UAT.
