Assistant Ranger
CurrentMy role entails:- Assisting with habitat management. Chalk Grassland management including two SSSI areas, the sites are cattle grazed, dominant thistles and ragwort removed and scrub kept to a minimum. Woodland and rides are managed carefully with selective thinning, appropriate planting and removal of pests and weeds. - Ensuring the properties set a good first impression and presentation standards are met is very important. I help make sure signage, fencing, gates, stiles, tree guards and the car park are all are in good condition and functioning well. Maintenance of tools, vehicles and buildings ensures they work well, are safe to use and resources are looked after.- Volunteer recommendation. I have worked with diverse groups of volunteers including work groups from local businesses, local conservation groups, therapists and clients from a charity called Thrive (specialists in horticultural therapy) and a group of regular volunteers. I thoroughly enjoy working with volunteers and I believe we have good strong working relationships.- Visitor engagement. 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾, Project wildthing, natural play area, leading walk, Taking time to explain what we are doing.- Administration. Assisting with HLS, EWGS and cross compliance paperwork. Completing workshop checklists and risk assessments. Photographs for social media. Recruiting volunteers and organizing volunteer support.
