International newsroom leader with more than 20 years experience in daily news output and newsgathering.As Executive Producer of Al Jazeera English, I direct world-class coverage of major international events. As a member of the leadership team at TRT World in Istanbul, I launched the channel’s first digital-first programme, which brought together digital and television newsrooms. During almost a decade in London, I edited BBC World’s flagship news programmes, GMT with Lucy Hockings and Impact with Yalda Hakim, as well as the nightly newscast on domestic BBC4.I travelled extensively to breaking news events in predominantly high-risk zones in the Middle East and Asia.Assignments saw me on the frontlines against ISIS in Iraq, in Afghanistan with the BBC’s chief correspondent Lyse Doucet, and in the midst of deadly protests in Egypt during the Arab Spring. In 2012, I was sent to the BBC's Washington bureau to produce World News America with Katty Kay during the presidential elections. My journalism career began at TVNZ, where I covered politics in Wellington after stints in sports and general news in Christchurch and Auckland.
