Union Studio was founded in 2001 to use our skills as architects and urban designers to make a civic contribution to communities of all types. The practice has grown from 3 to 26 people, but remains a mission-based firm committed to using design to enrich lives and strengthen communities.At Union Studio, I have lead the design, documentation, and construction administration of community-centered projects around the country. Recent projects include a new Living Community Challenge mixed-income neighborhood in Ann Arbor, MI; missing middle workforce housing in Hyannis, MA; the retrofit of an 1850s livery building into a non-profit urban agriculture headquarters with mixed use neighborhood retail space; the retrofit of a 1970s office building into 80-beds of sustainable student housing in downtown Monterey, CA; the retrofit of a 1970s manufacturing facility into an engineering office; and a visioning exercise for an urban farm and community collective in North Philly.

Island Architects is a high-end residential architecture firm with a 20-year history in La Jolla, California. They design residences of distinction in traditional, regional, and contemporary styles.During my time here, I worked on residential projects of all scales in coastal California and Hawaii. I served as project manager for a full-scale remodel of a 4,000 sf residence in La Jolla and a new, 9,000 sf residence in northern San Diego. These projects involved hand-rendered design development drawings, Revit construction sets, material selection, extensive local permitting and public hearings, and on-site construction administration.
