Daily responsibilities include facilitating efficient operation of a hospital-based pathology laboratory. Appropriate electronic registration of various specimens into patient management systems, triaging of urgent requests, processing post-testing add-on requests and organising transport of samples to off-site testing locations is paramount given the fast-paced nature of a hospital-based STAT lab.Assistance in the processing of medical tests is under the supervision of senior scientists is frequent within the biochemistry department. Multiple machines including Beckman Coulter and others are utilised for patient testing.

Maintained a safe and responsible service of alcohol within the venue and assisted in the operation of the gaming sector including the management and initiation of electronic gambling machine payouts, TAB and Keno transactions and RSL Rewards Plus memberships in line with VGCCC guidelines.

I had the privilege of completing a semester long research project at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases at the Alfred Hospital. My research utilised umbilical cord blood derived erythroid progenitor cells (HUDEP-2) to better understand JAK-STAT signalling in myeloproliferative neoplasms. We aimed to investigate the effect of EGR1 knockout on the expression of target genes when stimulated by EPO, aiming to better understand the molecular pathways involved in various blood cancers. This research was conducted as part of the HUP3990 unit (Human pathology in action research project) at Monash University, for which I was awarded a high distinction for both my thesis and for the seminar in which I presented my findings.

The Access Monash program aims to provide support to VCE students from underrepresented schools, and assists them in their transition to university. As a mentor in this program, I organised frequent mentoring sessions with VCE students from under-represented schools. Continually provided academic, tertiary and career support to students. Networked with several academics and alumni so the students had the opportunity to immerse themselves into their dream job through participation in mentor organised CareerLink sessions.
