Starting my time with McGuckin as a cashier, I quickly moved up from a cashier three to a cashier one, plus the ability to give fishing and hunting licenses to those qualified. The housewares manager came to me and asked if I wanted to work on the floor in her department. I agreed and loved the transition. It enabled me to help customers in the department and all over the store. This position involved providing nothing but the best customer service to all patrons. In addition, interpersonal communication skills were requisite, and keeping 'my' aisles well-stocked and organized. I had to keep inventory, order more products from the warehouse when the quantities started dropping, or pre-emptively stock up on items I knew would sell quickly.

In this position, I completed office work, filing, computer maintenance, whatever the boss asked me to do. I also looked after and managed this building. My duties included keeping the place in good shape and yard work and other groundskeeping and maintenance responsibilities along with keeping the computer up-to-date, protected, and connected to the internet so the doctor for whom I worked could maintain his intraoperative monitoring practice.

In this job, I not only built frames and put art behind a piece of glass, but I also helped customers decide on what frames would go well with their art. I also helped them decide on what color(s) of matting to have to add depth or contrast to the colors of the art. I also helped people to get the best deal they could, always with a smile. I treated each piece of art as if it were my own, so I did my best work on everything and never heard a complaint. I always loved to hand the customer their finished piece and see the look of glee pop in their eyes as they thanked me profusely for all of my help.
