As a mid-level engineer at NTT Security, I focused on long term projects to improve our existing application infrastructure and developed new services to keep our products competitive. One such project involved converting a mission-critical application into a set of containerized Docker micro-services for cloud deployments across the globe. Another project involved refactoring a core service into a library we could distribute globally for regional development and deployments.In my spare time I gathered metrics on application performance and used the information to identify pain-points in our applications. Some metrics were simple timing tests to determine an estimated data-in / data-out time. Other metrics involve sampling the JVM process using Linux kernel tools and visualizing the results in flame graphs.

As a junior engineer, I often worked on a team to develop new applications. These projects often involved prototyping with stacks we had not used before in our environment and had limited experience with. An example of such a project was decoupling a component of our core product to run as a standalone Spring application. For another project, I was tasked with upgrading an application from a deprecated version of JBoss to it's newer rebranded Wildfly platform, which involved gaining a deep understanding of the Wildfly application server and re-architecting many of the application's interactions with the server.In my downtime I started initiatives to improve our code quality and monitoring through bi-weekly events using the static code analysis software SonarQube. I also led initiatives to improve our continuous integration and production build environment (Jenkins) and improve our static test coverage.

As a member of the Production Engineering team, I assisted the senior developers with smaller tasks to allow them to focus on large projects. Included in these tasks were bug fixes, on-call support for many of our internal operations, and development on our resource monitoring and log parsing tools.
