It Consultant
I'm back at LSU working for LONI (under the LA Board of Regents). Our group is currently in the middle of a massive network and photonic transport overhaul. We are replacing aged Cisco 6500 Layer 3 switches and Cisco 15454 optical nodes with a mix of Juniper MX routers, Ciena photonic transport, and Ciena aggregation / CE devices. We are also rolling out new 40 and 100 Gbps services in several major Louisiana metro markets utilizing our newly constructed, state owned fiber optic cables connecting sites in a Clos architecture served by Dell whitebox layer 3 switches. We are embracing SD-WAN through projects that call for 100Gbps commodity hardware with a centralized, highly-available, offloaded control plane. We are migrating from a traditional Layer 3 / MPLS LDP core to a Data Center Interconnect model that will use 1 RU, purpose built MUX/deMUX boxes to combine several 100Gbps interfaces into a multi terabit per second super channel. We are reducing our operational complexity by collapsing routers and utilizing optical transport to backhaul layer 2.I'm hoping to gain a thorough understanding of the optical / layer one realm as well as pick up JunOS and Ciena OneControl / Site Manager / Blue Planet / SAOS.Versa SDWAN FlexVNF devices - 110, head-end (director, controllers, analytics engines)Juniper JunOS route / switch devices - MX 480 and 960, EX 3300 and 4300Ciena Carrier Ethernet devices - 5960, 3916, OneControlCiena photonic devices - 6500, WaveServer, SiteManagerDell ToR switches - Z9100-ON, S4048-ON, S3048-ON, Dell OS9, IPInfusion OCNosCisco photonic devices - 15454, CTCCisco IOS and related devices - Catalyst 6500, ASA 5520Management systems - Intermapper, Statseeker, NetBrain, OpenNMS, xWiki, FootprintsProductivity applications - MS Office (Outlook, Skype, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), MS Visio, Putty, SecureCRT, MTputtyFiber testing, circuit activation testing - PMD, CMD, OTDR, RFC2544, Exfo FTB-200
