I use molecular dynamics simulations in order to understand transport of solutes in the pores of lyotropic liquid crystal membranes. With this understanding, we aim to tune the shape and chemical functionality of the liquid crystal building blocks which make up these membranes in order to perform solute-specific separations. Applications of this technology are broad and include desalination, recovery of valuable dissolved species in complex waste streams such as hydraulic fracturing flow back water, and selective water transport in breathable barriers to chemical warfare agents.

I worked as a product developer with the Global Skin Cleansing team. My primary responsibility was to the Dove brand where I formulated isotropic and self-foaming body washes for consumers in multiple regions across the world.

I tested a switchable polarity draw solution for Forward Osmosis applications using standard membranes used in Forward and Reverse Osmosis applications. The nature of the draw solution required us to design and construct a solvent-tolerant bench scale forward osmosis system.

I worked on hair products in a formulation lab, developing new methods for delivery of aerosol hair products. The purpose was to mitigate release of harmful volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere through consumer usage of the product. I contributed to the company's goal of decreasing their environmental impact. I gained experience having a project of my own which required me to network with as many employees as possible to add value to the company in a short ten week time span. My summer was ended with professional presentation intended to convince upper management to implement my new innovations.

In addition to learning to develop liquid laundry detergents on the bench scale, I performed a competitive benchmarking project evaluating products from across the market in the 'free and clear' detergent market in order to improve the company's existing products. I gained experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory performing tests which mimicked the interaction of surfactants with skin.
