Benjamin Curran has over 10 years of experience as an educator in the historic preservation field. As a co-investigator for a research project funded by a National Geographic Society/Waitt Foundation grant, he worked as a senior member of the group investigating impacts of climate change and sea level rise and effects of saltwater intrusion for coastal heritage sites for the University of New Hampshire Earth System Research Center in Durham, N.H. Curran and his colleagues published an article in the APTI’s 2016 special issue of the Journal of Preservation Technology on Climate Change.While inundation, erosion, and storm surge will pose the most notable and visible dangers to our coastal cultural heritage, a more insidious and subversive threat, the progressive lifting of the coastal freshwater meniscus, i.e. the water table, by elevated sea levels will start effecting historical and cultural site long before inundation occurs. This project intends to explore the viability of constructing low-cost open-source sensors for the purpose of increasing the breadth of communities engaged in self-monitoring their susceptibility to sea level rise.

Responsible for oversight of all instruction, curriculum development, administrative and budgetary aspects of STC's Historic Preservation program. As Director of Center for Traditional Craft, developed extensive two-day and five-day traditional trade and craft workshop program.

Peter Post Restoration specializes in the museum quality preservation and restoration of private, public, and institutional historic properties. The firm has managed and undertaken all aspects of historically correct restoration, including structural repair, masonry repair and restoration, timber framing, restoration carpentry, and roofing projects in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, California, and Canada. Recent restoration projects have included the slate roof restoration at Historic Christ Church on the Northern Neck of Virginia, wood shingle roof restoration at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, early 18th century brick and stone masonry restoration of the Brafferton at the College of William and Mary, timber frame reconstruction of mid-19th century two-story henhouse/dovescote, stabilization of early 19th century plantation complex outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia, the interior restoration of the mid-18th century Old Senate Chamber of the Maryland State Capital, and installation of the Winged Nike statue for the Yorktown Jamestown Foundation.

I assisted in the development of a two-year associates degree program that focused on the hands-on conservation of historically significant buildings. In addition to designing the curriculum for the preservation carpentry program, I was in charge of the restoration a 200 year-old farm that will become the Heritage Center for the Tarboro area.

Principle duties include the assistance of UNH faculty and research professors with GIS/remote sensing based projects and the assistance of the Laboratory Manager in the construction and management of a remote sensing data server. Secondary duties included use and maintenance of large format printer/plotter, updating laboratory software, educational presentations, and general office/laboratory upkeep.
