I work with university students who require extra assessed and funded by student disability services. I aim to help students overcome barriers to learning caused by mental health, learning and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Examples of help can involve: time management, prioritising workloads, goal setting, assisting with mental health problems and other pastoral support.

I assess patients to see how our service can help them, or to see if the person would benefit from the use of equipment such as pressure cushions, zimmer frame or toilet raising seat etc. We support patients so they can carry out their activities of daily living at home. Or we may monitor patients whilst they have an acute infection to ensure they do not deteriorate further.

I work as a community health care assistant. Visiting patients who have various dementias at different states. I visit residents with the aim of providing them and/or their carer’s with support. We aim to provide intense support with the aim to keep our patient’s out of hospital. I use RiO, Order Comms and Microsoft Office software programs. I update the team’s internet and intranet website pages. I have carried out neuropsychological assessments such as the TYM test.

I work 12.5 hour shifts, 36 hours a week. Providing assistance with daily tasks such as personal care and assistance feeding. I am responsible for updating patient's daily notes along with other paperwork such as: food, fluid, bowels, observations and engagement forms. I know how to carry out clinical observations, blood sugar levels (CBG) and ECGs. I have also training in learning disabilities and autism. I work in a multi-disciplinary team with consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers. I attend ward round and provide feedback on our patient's wellbeing. I help support patients with their mental health illnesses for example, I listen and talk to patients and provide distraction techniques. Sometimes talking and listening to patients is enough for them. We have patients with a mix of learning disabilities and mental health conditions such as: dementia, bipolar, schizophrenia, learning disabilities, personality disorders, depression and anxiety. I am a shift leader which involves ensuring all required tasks are carried out as a team in a timely manner. I was given a one-year honorary contract to work with Somerset Partnership (SomPar) personality disorder (PD) team. I helped to provide psychoeducational workshops about the knowledge and understanding surrounding Borderline Personality Disorder to patients and their careers. Examples of the knowledge provided was possible causes, symptoms and treatment options. This was delivered in the form of a one-day 6 hour workshops, presented with colleagues.

This was meant to be a one-month internship through UWE. However, the charity was so impressed with my work they extended it by a further month. Young Bristol is a charity providing lots of different services for young people. I had meetings with digital marketers from banks to learnt how to improve digital marketing for Young Bristol. I kept Young Bristol’s Twitter, Facebook and webpage up to date. I also created and updated different computer databases.
