DATA PROTECTION I worked closely with the CEO to ensure that Chambers complied with the GDPR and all other data protection legislation. I advised the senior leadership team and members of Chambers on data protection law and compliance; coordinated staff training; undertook DPIAs; managed responses to personal data breaches; drafted suitable Art. 28 GDPR addendums/Art. 26 arrangements; and liaised with the ICO where necessary. I successfully coordinated the response to three personal data breaches, all of which led to the ICO concluding that no enforcement action was necessary. COMPLIANCE AND GOVERNANCEI acted as Secretary to the Management Committee and Operations Committee for four months, whilst Chambers was without a CEO.I coordinated a full review of Chambers' manual. This included revising policies concerning: (i) Data security and responses to data breaches; (ii) administration and finance procedures; (iii) grievance and disciplinary procedures; (iv) Equality and Diversity policies; and (v) updating all policies (such as recruitment) in line with the BSB Code of Conduct. I worked with and advised senior members of staff to ensure that Chambers' policies were implemented and followed.I ensured that Chambers was fully compliant with the Legal Ombudsman and BSB complaints procedures; I assisted the CEO in investigating such complaints.

DATA PRIVACYAssisted Derek Sweeting QC advise a compliance firm on the requirements of the GDPR, which included drafting suitable Article 28 agreements and facilitating the lawful transfer of personal data to third countries outside the EEA. Assisted Collingwood Thompson QC advise a client on the right to access personal data under the GDPR and the exemptions that apply to this right under the Data Protection Act 2018; considered whether or not certain exemptions contained in the 2018 Act are lawful as a matter of ECHR jurisprudence. I have advised in relation to, and coordinated, three responses to personal data breaches, which included drafting the notifications to the ICO and data subjects. In all three cases the ICO decided that no enforcement action was necessary. INQUESTSAssisted Stephen Cragg QC and James Robottom in drafting a skeleton argument for the Court of Appeal. The issue was whether Coroners have jurisdiction to investigate "suspected deaths" (R. (on the application of T) v. HM Senior Coroner for West Yorkshire [2017] EWCA Civ 318). HUMAN RIGHTSI researched the issue of whether forced retirement engages article 8 ECHR, with Jeffrey Jupp.CRIMINAL LAWI researched the use of production orders for Jenny Carter-Manning. PROCEEDS OF CRIMEAssisted Collingwood Thompson QC successfully obtain a confiscation order over property held under a constructive trust.TAX LAWI wrote an opinion, with Julian Matthews and Jeffrey Jupp, advising whether the Stamp Duty Land Tax regime and the concepts of "linked transactions" and "unit trusts" applied to the sale of certain shares.

Pro bono Education Advocate for the Communities Empowerment Network school exclusions project. For this work I represented students at appeals before school governing bodies, and Independent Review Panels, in order to challenge the decision to exclude them from school.Decisions to exclude are challenged under public law heads of review.I have appeared before the Independent Review Panel on several occasions and successfully persuaded the panel to quash the decision to permanently exclude the student concerned.

Cambridgeshire

I was employed to research and correlate chancel repair liabilities for the parishes of S. Mary’s and S. Andrew’s, Whittlesford and S. John the Baptist, Pampisford. I researched this area of law and analysed various sources (particularly enclosure awards) to produce final reports which detailed my findings. My work was undertaken in a relatively short time frame, and supervised by a solicitor who attended one of the parishes.At the conclusion of my research I presented my report to the lay members of each Parochial Church Council, and explained the significance of my findings to them. I spent a great deal of time listening to their concerns and answering various procedural and substantive questions. As a result of my presentation, both councils resolved to take the steps to lodge the interests I identified. I then drafted appropriate resolutions, and assisted each parish in lodging the Unilateral Notices required to register their interests with the Land Registry, in time to meet the October 2013 deadline.
