While not fighting fires, we worked out of our base conducting fuels management projects and educating the local community about firesafe behaviour. When deployed to a fire, members are expected to work 12 hr days minumum in remote areas with the possibility of camping and living off nonperishable foods. I had the opportunity to travel to the Yukon and Washington State on separate deployments.
