Benjamin McCarthy is a private instructor and freelance musician with over 20 years of experience on the trumpet. He has earned degrees from Virginia Tech (B.A.), the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (M.M.), and recently completed his Doctor of Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2020. As a private trumpet instructor, he has experience teaching students ranging from beginners to the graduate level. Ben’s performance endeavors include professional organizations such as the Greeley Philharmonic Brass Christmas, Larimer Chorale, Tidewater Winds, and the Loveland Opera. He was featured with University of Northern Colorado Wind Ensemble as the winner of the Rocky Mountain Solo Competition in 2015. His other notable solo performances include the 2016 UNC Trumpet Festival and Graduate Division semifinalist of the National Trumpet Competition in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016. Ben previously studied under Dr. John Adler, Judith Saxton, Mark Israel and Philip Hembree.
