Conducted a self-defined masters project under the supervision of Prof. Richard Walton concerning the synthesis and characterisation of cobalt and molybdenum containing materials for the photocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction. During the project, a novel trimetallic cobalt and molybdenum coordination polymer was synthesised as verified by a combination of synchrotron X-ray diffraction and 3D electron diffraction. The novel material was further characterised by XRF, SEM, UV-Vis, FT-IR and TGA.

Conducted a self-defined research placement under the supervision of Dr. Robin Perry and Dr. Pascal Manuel concerning the synthesis and characterisation of quasi 1D and 2D transition metal sulfides for low power spintronic applications. Throughout the placement I learnt how to conduct SCXRD/PXRD/Laue diffraction experiments and refine X-ray diffraction data utilising Jana 2006/2020 and GSAS I/II. I also independently conducted magnetic susceptibility measurements and had the chance to conduct neutron diffraction experiments at WISH beamline. Following from this I also gained experience in magnetic structure determination. I have also been awarded beam time on SXD in order to determine the magnetic structure of one of the materials which I worked on during my placement. The experiment proposal obtained the highest amount of votes from the selection committee.
