I work as an Environmental Specialist conducting shoreline and marsh surveys on areas impacted by the Saint Simons Sound incident. The purpose of these surveys is to locate and remove oil and debris from the areas which it is deposited. This requires a high degree of awareness towards the weather and tidal conditions as well as a working knowledge of coastal geomorphology and the patterns in which sediment accumulates and ablates along the shoreline. One must have the ability to change strategies and/or develop contingency plans in order to work safely and efficiently.

I worked as an Agroforestry Volunteer in a small Pulaar village just outside of Missirah, Tambacounda. Service was demanding and challenging, yet fulfilling as each day had something new to offer. Service was unfortunately cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ocean Lifeguarding on the Oceano and Sonoma Coasts was a very formative experience in my young life. The work was multifaceted and taught me a large variety of skills: from representing a government agency in uniform, to being constantly prepared, ever aware of conditions and patrons, to staying vigilant despite all evidence pointing towards no hazards being present to then having to spring into action when least expected. I worked my way from a simple tower guard my first summer in Oceano, to patrolling a 42 mile stretch of Coast in Sonoma County often alone; making preventative contacts when possible, and rescues/performing medicals when necessary.
