My name is Benjamin Smith and I am a Mineral Surveyor. I have a passion for surveying, due to the precision and accuracy it requires. Mining safety is directly governed by mining according to the planned perimeters and as a surveyor, I am directly involved in ensuring that all mining activities stays within the planned perimeters and therefore I completed my National diploma in mineral surveying as well as my Bachelor of Technology degree in Mineral Resource Management.I have gained experience as a mineral surveyor during my exposure year in 2010 and during my mandatory experiential learning (P1 and P2) in 2012 at Anglo American Platinum. This enabled me to become proficient in the day to day duties of a mineral surveyor which includes: traversing, measuring and plotting of the calculated observations; both manually and with MicroStation (drafting software). By being exposed to these tasks I have mastered the art of completing my daily duties with the required accuracy and precision.My other work experience, which is not directly related to mineral surveying, includes managing all farming activities at Quebec farm as well as supervising weed control practices specifically intended for road maintenance at Spraynet. I have gained invaluable experience in team work, as well as being a leader. These work experiences improved and developed my self-initiative taking, resource allocation and meeting deadline skills.I am an observant, factual, hardworking and intelligent person. I have a very optimistic attitude towards life and take on new challenges without hesitation. When given a task I can take initiative and finish everything I started within the given deadlines.
