An essential role of the Peer Tutor is to assist students struggling with various courses at Florida SouthWestern State College. A Peer Tutor will be trained to provide supplementary instruction of specific course content, assist in the integration of effective learning and study strategies, and encourage student tutees to strive for academic independence. Peer Tutors work directly under the Coordinator or Supervisor of Peer Tutorial Services and the Director of Academic Support Programs. Most Peer Tutors will work in one of the Peer Tutoring Center locations at Florida SouthWestern State College, but some may be employed in the Writing Center or other tutoring areas. Peer Tutors may be assigned specific tasks by the Peer Tutoring supervisor designed to enhance the Peer Tutoring Training or Program.
