The Energy Systems Analysis Project aims at providing insights and informing academics and decision-makers about energy challenges and possible energy futures in Canada.• Conduct research on Canada’s past, present and future energy systems with a focus on oil, natural gas, electricity generation as well as associated GHG emissions. Research includes 1) data gathering and analysis, charts and maps generating; 2) analysis of provincial energy systems to identify potential synergies and tensions among provinces. Preliminary results were presented to Alberta Government and Calgary Economic Development.• Work with the Canadian Energy System Simulator (CanESS) modeling Canada’s energy system on a per province basis. The model allows exploring historical data and generating scenarios through 800+ variables.• Develop a website on Canada’s energy systems to present complex data with interactive visualizations for expert and non-expert audience with the collaboration of faculty members from various departments.
Research Leader On Industrial Mutations In The Seine Estuary
Carried out and published a study on carbon constraint and associated opportunities in a seaport industrial cluster. Study provided decision-makers and industrial stakeholders (such as Total, EDF, GDF-Suez, Lafarge) with in-depth analysis and strategic recommendations in the framework of the estuary revitalization master plan.— Analyzed the territory’s metabolism: energy flows, goods/services, value creation, employment— Conducted a multi-criteria analysis of the estuary’s challenges in a context of globalization and carbon constraint— Outlined recommendations to revitalize industrial activities such as carbon capture and storage, industrial ecology, green transportation for freight— Presented key conclusions in front of 400 elected representatives and decision-makers. This study was published in a book under the title “Industry’s Future in Seaports: the Seine Estuary case” (Presses des Mines; June 2012)
