My role involved laboratory supervision of undergraduate students from first to third year.My typical duties involved the explanation and clarification of concepts to students, teaching common laboratory techniques to students, assisting students throughout the course of the experiment, assisting in the acquisition of spectral data (IR, NMR, HPLC, UV-Vis, m.p.), marking student reports and enforcing rules and safety in the laboratory.Third year demonstration was part of a… Show more My role involved laboratory supervision of undergraduate students from first to third year.My typical duties involved the explanation and clarification of concepts to students, teaching common laboratory techniques to students, assisting students throughout the course of the experiment, assisting in the acquisition of spectral data (IR, NMR, HPLC, UV-Vis, m.p.), marking student reports and enforcing rules and safety in the laboratory.Third year demonstration was part of a "capstone" program and involved overseeing a semester long research project in which students planned the optimization and synthesis of a commercially available drug. This involved weekly meetings with students to plan and review their work on top of regular duties listed above.In 2019 I was awarded the Brad Stringer award by the university as the best performing demonstrator of the year, judged by outcomes and student feedback. This required identifying suitable class times, finding and booking venues and organizing content to teach.I also attended the compulsory weekly subject tutorials as… Show more My role involved the identification of areas of concern for underperforming or at risk students and in supporting and assisting these them in their studies in two second year chemistry subjects.My typical duties involved the organization of weekly "drop in sessions" where students could bring work and ask questions. This required identifying suitable class times, finding and booking venues and organizing content to teach.I also attended the compulsory weekly subject tutorials as a tutor to further assist students.Part of my role also dealt with the referral of student issues and concerns that required expert assistance to university services.Students identified as not engaging with the subject were targeted with emails and phone calls in an attempt to increase engagement.In 2016, one second year chemistry subject was recognised as having the highest student satisfaction of any subject university wide.
