Work was part of the laboratory breeding programs studying the improvement of tree nuts and elderberries at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry, which included:• In charge of black walnut and chestnut harvest, lead team of five• Hand harvest and mechanically hull tree nuts• Operate industrial nutcracker• Dissect and evaluate nut tissue samples noting physical characteristics• Calculate and prepare indicator dye solutions for viability assays• Follow basic greenhouse operations

Work supported the study of applied genomics in maize to characterize genes controlling nitrogen utilization and the Illinois Long-Term Selection Experiment which included:• Assist with amino acid extraction via affinity chromatography• Prepare various buffers, gels, and sample solutions• Perform tissue culturing and PCR procedures• Collect and prepare various plant tissue samples for analysis• Participate in general laboratory upkeep

Transfer collection information from specimen sheets to the Herbarium database to organize the information more efficiently, saving the information for posterity, and allowing taxonomist and biologists easier access to the historic plant collections.
