In 2011 I was promoted to Senior Software Developer within the team. I continued to project manage and release sizing modules, often managing multiple projects at once. The team had grown and at times I was managing the workload of up to 7 developers, often a mixture of contractors and permanent staff.I was responsible for organizing meetings with different global sectors to capture requirements and on multiple occasions I had to manage projects without a requirement specification. This meant that I had to gain a thorough understanding of the product itself, capture what the product owner required the software to do and then design a solution to meet those needs. I would then plan out and break down the tasks to assign to myself and the other developers on the team. I would often need to provided them support regarding coding, logic and product / thermodynamics / engineering advice. This meant that I was the first port of call for questions and queries about the project and workload, from both the product owners and developers.As well as these duties I remained the main UI designer for all modules, lead design meetings for requirements capture and continued to create most of the screens and animations.

At Spirax Sarco I was part of a team delivering sizing modules for the company’s web based and offline Sizing Suite software written in Silverlight and WPF using C#.Net, MVVM, PRISM and MEF.I Initially joined a small team of two other developers working on the legacy sizing software written in a linear procedural programming language called KB Script (similar to VB). At this time each developer was assigned to a sizing module and worked from a requirement specification written by the product owner. This involved coding large complex sizing algorithms to size intricate engineering products. Due to the nature of the products I needed to learn and have a good understanding of thermodynamics to be able to analyze and work through the requirement specifications. It soon was apparent that the current platform was no longer suitable for the software to grow and meet the company's needs. After some research and help from an external consultant the new Silverlight and WPF platforms were born. The team quickly grew in size as the demand for new sizing modules increased and we adopted the agile framework with scrum in 2 week sprints.In the early stages of development I was solely responsible for designing and creating the UI for the software. I would organized design meetings to capture specific requirements to create the best UI based on those requirements. I quickly became the main knowledge pool of XAML and animation using visual states within the team. Once most of the upfront interface design and creation was finished I was then given sizing modules to project mange with 1-2 developers. Initially this was overseen by the team leader but I soon became competent and reliable enough to manage these projects alone.Other responsibilities:- Designing and project managing the company's iPhone App which was then written by an external developer. - Worked on various maintenance tasks, bugs and provided first line user support on a daily basis.

Mastertaste is a global company not only producing a large selection of flavours and fragrances and but also supplying natural products. My role at Mastertaste changed somewhat since I first joined the company. I was originally employed solely to carry out system development in the planning department. This included writing complex macros in VBA to manipulate data downloaded from their main system into Excel to eradicate the need for the information to be entered manually into their planning spreadsheets. I also worked closely with the European Logistics Manager to create a totally new Target Stock Report and monitoring system for streamlining raw material procurement. At Mastertaste I also took on the unofficial, yet sanctioned, role of In-office IT Technician providing user support to staff on day to day problems that arose with printers and the various applications used.Whilst still carrying out the systems development I also took on the role of Raw Materials Co-ordinator. MRG Systems provide some of the most technologically advanced display systems available and also provide teletext services to all the main TV channels. My role was to perform fault finding checks and install upgrades on both the hardware and software on a computer system designed specifically for a well known group of bookmakers. I was involved in all areas of the process which included hardware checks, installing software in Linux command prompt through to testing the computers after a 48 hour soak.

Within this position I was responsible for troubleshooting the various problems that arose on a day to day basis. These problems ranged from the installed software crashing to the hardware itself failing. I worked with and maintained a medium/large network not only providing general support for those using the system but also installing and maintaining the hardware.In this role I had an opportunity to create and edit websites both for the company and for new franchised book dealers, building them to the dealer’s specification and working with them to obtain a result they were fully satisfied with. I also worked closely with the Managing Director to design and create advertisements that the company could then publish.I was also responsible for the stock control of the toner cartridges and stationary required by the company. To streamline this task, and also to make it more efficient, I created an Excel spreadsheet which kept a log of the amount of toner/stationary in stock and in addition calculated the price of different quantities of replacement and prompted an order when necessary.In addition I was responsible for the mail security program. I had to filter the quarantined Emails to identify viruses and junk mail then release or delete the mail as appropriate. In this role I gained knowledge of Visual Basic 6 and had to use this to alter code and maintain the web-based Intranet. I also wrote basic programs to help me in my work.
