I was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Haileybury Youth Trust for a 5 year term Based in Jinja, Uganda HYT’s objective is to provide sustainable interventions to improve health, education and training, and employment prospects among disadvantaged young people thereby helping to meet basic humanitarian needs through physical development in both rural and urban Uganda.We provide theoretical and practical training and experience in appropriate construction technologies, in particular the low carbon Interlocking Stabilised Soil Block [ISSB].In partnership with communities, and working with our trainee builders, local builders, and our senior trainers, HYT undertakes an environmentally-friendly programme of building and refurbishment of schools and other buildings, and the construction of water-tanks and latrines that enhances health, sanitation and educational provision.Following projects we continue to support the communities our newly-skilled builders by providing business training and support, enabling them to develop small-scale business enterprises.
