Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus

During my time as an intern at the Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute (CWRI) I worked primarily in the Research and Conservation, and Rescue and Rehabilitation Programs. Notable aspects of my work include creating information documents for prospective and new volunteers, restructuring the volunteer application process in coordination with institute staff, assisting in the alteration of the volunteering program for future volunteer seasons, and undertaking a welfare and behaviour monitoring project focussing on emus within the institutes' Wildlife Sanctuary. Alongside these projects, I assisted staff in both the Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre with patient care and treatment, feeding, and monitoring rehabilitation. I also created social media posts and content for the institute and provided some administrative support at times.

Ahuano, Napo, Ecuador

I worked as a Conservation Biologist Intern at Amazoonico, a wildlife rescue centre in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Key tasks completed as part of my internship included:- producing a species list for Amazoonico and the affiliated Selva Viva Nature Reserve for use in a government application,- assisting with the creation of the plan for ongoing Wildlife Monitoring for the Selva Viva Nature Reserve consisting of camera traps, surveys and unsystematic surveys,- Cleaning, fixing taxonomic errors, and preparing the Amazoonico and Selva Viva iNaturalist database for analysis.Alongside these larger tasks I also undertook normal volunteer tasks such as animal husbandry and giving guided tours of the parts of the centre open to visitors.

Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysia

I worked as an intern for KOPEL, a rainforest conservation and ecotourism organisation in Borneo, primarily working on camera trapping and wildlife monitoring but also a wide range of other tasks such as replanting, lake restoration, tree mapping and wildlife surveying. Whilst there I was able to undertake fieldwork, including independently planning and undertaking a brief behavioural monitoring project on the Oriental Darter. I also contributed to KOPEL's wildlife monitoring report for the Malaysian Forestry Comission.

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

I assisted with the rehabilitation and release of a variety of bird species including African penguins, Cape Cormorants and Hartlaub's Gulls. I learnt practical skills in animal husbandry such as as wild bird handling, feeding and tube-feeding wild birds, behaviour monitoring and preparing medication. I principally worked with the ICU but also the general rehab pens and the nursery.
