• Product Evaluation and Measurement Scientist (6-month contract) working in the Unilever Global Hair CTI Team to provide product performance measurements.• I commenced this role shortly before the covid-19 pandemic started to have a serious effect on the UK. As a result I was placed on furlough after only 3 weeks, since my position was heavily laboratory based. This continued until the end of my temporary contract, where due to covid-19 the position was no longer required.• The first week of my assignment was spent reading literature on the structure and properties of hair. The following two weeks were spent working from home, where I conducted literature research on the effect of ethnicity on hair properties and compiled key conclusions into a slide deck resource. I also gained good experience of remote team working and working from home.

Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbon (EPH) analysis of contaminated soil and water:• Employed as a Trainee Analyst (after completing initial training period).• Conducting petroleum hydrocarbon analysis of soil and water samples via GC-FID.• Working to UKAS and MCERTS accredited methods, ISO17025, and EPH/CWG protocols.• Responsibility to deliver high quality, reliable results within time constraints to meet deadlines.• Application of Kaizen concept and 5S, and involvement in daily SQDC meetings.• Performing maintenance and calibration of instruments and fault finding.• Preparing stocks and standards for calibration and quality control.

• Awarded a 14 day-long scholarship at the Hanson Cement Padeswood analytical laboratory, as part of a government STEM program. • Carried out quality assurance analysis of samples at various stages of production. • Used analytical methods such as x-ray fluorescence, air permeability, UV/Vis spectrometry, and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). • Gained experience of repairing, maintaining, and re-calibrating a HPLC unit for analysis of a vast range of target analytes.
