Ben Stack’s paintings have been collected for decades by those in the know. Based in Sydney, Australia, his work is worldwide. Ben started his career in Ireland, but it was when he moved to Australia that he developed the bold, bright and vivid canvases for which he’s become well known. He was trained classically and is an excellent figurative artist (examples can be found on his website). After years of painting hyper-realism, he decided to move away from this genre because, “I wanted to find more of the essence of what I was doing; I decided to take all the content out, and reduce everything to its basic forms, i.e, light and shade, background, middle ground and foreground.His use of shadow adds the illusion of depth. “When marks made by the brush are given a shadow it creates the illusion that they are objects in space, rather than flat marks on a surface.” Ben recently opened his own gallery in Crows Nest, Sydney in order to bring his work to a wider public. www.benstack.com.auInstagram: benstack2000
