Established by an Australian in 1995, the Lotus Children’s Centre is a non-government organisation (NGO) working with vulnerable Mongolian families. The Lotus Children’s Centre provides education and a home for children whose backgrounds include abandonment, sexual abuse, malnutrition and domestic violence. It houses up to one hundred and fifty children at one time, ranging from newborns to teenagers (two months to nineteen years old) and also runs a kindergarten and a primary school. The centre provides accommodation, education, personal development and family support.

Priority is given to young people from the South and Port Melbourne areas.
