About Dirk Xanthos

I am a driven, professional and dedicated individual commencing my career in occupational therapy. It's been a bit of a journey to get here. After working in the accounting and finance sector for a decade in Australia and the UK, in 2012 I left the profession and made a sea change, diving into a completely different career. After moving to Canada in 2014, I graduated with a Master of Resource and Environmental Management from Dalhousie University in 2016. My primary focus was on the important global issue of solid waste reduction, especially plastic pollution. My passion for these issues has shone through in a number of widely cited articles published in academic journals relating to reduction of plastic pollution and solid waste generally. In early 2018, I attended the 6th International Marine Debris Conference in San Diego as a presenter and session chair, demonstrating my commitment to reducing plastic pollution. I continue to be committed to environmental activism and advocacy. I returned home to Australia and re-trained again, commencing a Master of Occupational Therapy degree at Swinburne. I completed the requirements for this degree in June 2023. I am passionate about working in mental health. I bring a wealth of skills from my past employment history, in addition to my new skills in occupational therapy assessment and intervention.
