Eric is the Founding Partner of Berg Law Group. He has over 35 years of experience trying and arbitrating complex commercial disputes throughout California. Prior to founding his firm, Eric served as Chair of the Litigation Department of Santa Barbara-based Hatch and Parent, and as a Shareholder with Hatch and Parent’s successor, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck.Eric has achieved successful results across multiple industries, with particular emphasis on resolution and trial of business and real estate disputes, trust and estates disputes, and the defense of professional liability claims.Eric's real estate experience includes serving as lead trial and arbitration counsel for owners, developers, and design professionals. He represents California property owners in high profile and complex coastal access disputes, and has tried land use, contract and disclosure cases to verdict as lead trial counsel. Eric represents executors, trustees and beneficiaries in trust and estates disputes, having served as trial counsel to some of the most complicated and high profile trust and estates disputes in California. Eric's professional liability experience focuses on the defense of professional services firms and their principals in standard of care and intentional misconduct actions. Eric is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an invitation-only national trial lawyer organization where he holds the rank of Associate. He is an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association's National Rosters of Commercial and Construction Arbitrators. Active in the community, Eric is the Past President of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, and serves as Chairperson of its Fee Arbitration Committee. Eric currently serves as President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, and is the former Board Chair of the Tri Counties Region of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). In 2012 Eric was presented with the ADL’s Harter-Myerson Award in recognition of his service as an outstanding community leader. Eric obtained his BA in Political Science from the University of California San Diego in 1984, where he was selected to serve as Student Commencement Speaker. He obtained his JD from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1987.
