Master'S DissertationAmorim Cork Composites Feb 2017 - Jun 2017Analysis and Improvement of the Productive Processes in a Production Line of Cork AgglomeratesThis dissertation was carried out in a rolling line of cork blocks. The main focus of the project was the creation of a model to estimate the rolling lead times, that would allow the improvement of the accuracy of the existing forecasts. In addition, a series of observations and measurements were made on the line, in order to identify, quantify and characterize stopping times and improvement proposals were presented to reduce these unproductive times. These improvements consisted, essentially, on layout changes and modifications in equipment. A quantification of the wasted material in the line due to the machine’s operation was also carried out.The created model led to a reduction of 53,92% of the forecast error, that went from 37,29% to 17,18%. This reduction is quite significant and allowed production planning to be made more reliable and adequate, providing the company with more realistic forecasts for lead times that would allow a greater commitment with the customer and an increase of the service level. The remaining proposed improvements allowed the reduction of downtimes, minimized operator movements and organized areas.
