Senior leader in Higher Education: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of the University of Bath 2015-2021 (Acting Vice-Chancellor 2018-2019), Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) 2010-2015; Director of the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Medicine, Imperial College London 2006-2010.Key achievements at the University of Bath:• As Acting Vice-Chancellor I successfully led the University after a challenging period of instability, back to an even keel, with the governing body formally recognising this phase of crisis management. • Co-Chair of the Institute of Coding, a £40M DfE-supported project established in 2018 to provide digital skills training at all levels and improve diversity and inclusion in the digital sector. A consortium of major industry (Amazon, Microsoft) and SMEs, higher education and government, the Institute has significantly exceeded its original targets, engaging 900,000 learners since launch. • Forged constructive partnerships between the University and the local community and Council, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. • Championed mental health and wellbeing across the University community, introducing a mental health wellbeing manager and training for staff and students.• Radically improved Bath’s position in the annual National Student Survey measuring student satisfaction. From 29th place in 2010 Bath rose to 1st in 2013, retaining its top spot in 2014. I also transformed open days for prospective students, resulting in larger numbers and better feedback from attendees. • I restructured the University recruitment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to combine home and international recruitment, consistently achieving a high and well-balanced student intake.Since retiring from the University of Bath in June 2021, I am now leading a number of projects in a consultancy capacity for both the University of Bath and Bath Spa University.
