Being a store manager of a Robert Dyas branch is like having a business of your own. There is great responsibility of running the store however the ability to have plenty of your own ideas and influence on a daily basis. Every aspect of the business is based on meeting KPI targets which included sales and payroll to stock control and customer experience. Managing staff: Supervisor and Duty manager, Interviews, induction and training new starters, disciplining, coaching and motivating individuals. Delivering team briefs and 1.2.1 reviews to ensure every colleague reached store targets. Merchandising: Ensuring that the store reflects the Robert Dyas image by implementing planagrams and promotional briefs. Utilising store space to drive impulse sales and key lines.Customer service: Mystery shopper in order to enhance customer loyalty, overall ensuring the Robert Dyas customer service reputation is reflected and received in our store. Operational: Daily paperwork, including health and safety, stock control and stock takes, cash control and clearance budgeting, price changes and checks.

Working within a Screwfix Branch for over a year has developed my commercial awareness of, not only, Screwfix as a company but also the retail environment as a whole, enhancing my management communication and creativity skills. I became more determined and confident as a leader which was reflected in the responsibility I gained throughout the years. My responsibilities range from managing the staff and store merchandising to branding and building relationships via outreach and B2B in the local area.

As well as confidence and customer relationship skills, I developed detailed knowledge of how a major retailer operates, including areas such as stock control and sales targets. I proactively sought to build retail skills by volunteering for checkout training which gave me the opportunity to learn about cash management. Sainsburys gave me a first real taster into the retail environment.
