My past position as CEO at The Medical Bureau of Pittsburgh (MBP) has endowed me with wide-ranging skills and flexibility in adapting to new and challenging situations. It is not a stretch to say that I am responsible for every aspect of the organization, from general facility maintenance to long range strategic planning, project management and oversight, and everything in between. When I came to the MBP it was obvious to me that the organization needed to update, cut costs, and pursue new sources of revenue in order to remain a viable business entity. I achieved these goals by computerizing, eliminating costly & redundant typing; purchasing & renovating a building to move our operations, greatly reducing overhead; and revamping our marketing to strengthen existing member relations and pursue new revenue streams in the veterinarian & hearing aid sectors of healthcare. I am responsible for maintaining accounting and MIS; interviewing, hiring, training, oversight, and motivation of the team; evaluating & qualifying loans; and insuring we are in compliance with all government regulations. I prepare and generate the payroll and submit all taxes, I also generate all of the payables and daily check runs. I book the revenues, expenses, and accruals; and prepare the agendas, minutes, financial reports, and operating budget for review at the monthly Board of Director’s meetings. I present a report on the status of the organization to the Board at each monthly meeting, and schedule and facilitate the yearly independent external audit performed by an outside accounting firm. I am responsible for all of the banking including reconciling accounts, entering journal entries, running ACH batches for daily cash receipts & payroll, and running a daily remote deposit. Additionally, I spend a great amount of time interacting with our members and their staff, and attending conferences to broaden our reach. The skills I use daily at MBP can be applied universally to any industry.
