Ran planning process and strategic development for BoatUS, built and managed external partnerships. Managed a team of eight data analysts responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of all reporting for BoatUS including defining, implementing, and monitoring metrics across all departments and managing weekly cross-departmental meetings to review and improve performance. In partnership with a GEICO Black Belt, introduced and implemented Lean Six Sigma (LSS). In 18 months, became an ASQ certified Black Belt, completed basic LSS training of all 600 employees, trained more than 100 Green Belts and eight Black Belts, and managed 25 projects to completion with total impact of $15M

Project managed 12 separate teams to build a new product to insure peer-to-peer boat rentals with a Silicon Valley tech partner. In six months, the teams wrote a unique policy, gained regulatory approval in all 50 states, built an integrated approval and verification process with the partner, created a new claims handling process, programmed a new insurance system, trained agents and claims adjusters, and coordinated the launch with a successful real-time go live.

Completed two circumnavigations of the world under sail while using financial, communication and analytical skills to help others realize their dreams. • Wrote three books including The Voyager’s Handbook (International Marine/McGraw-Hill, first edition 1998 and second edition 2006) which has sold nearly 30,000 copies and been recognized for its clear and practical approach to everything from budgeting to storm tactics• Published several hundred articles in nine magazines in the US and the UK including Cruising World, Sailing and Yachting World; employed innovative analyses to clarify complex financial topics • Presented slide shows to up to 500 people in dozens of professional venues in the US, UK and Australia including the Peabody Essex Museum, Mystic Seaport, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Windjammers of the Chesapeake and the Little Ship Club (London)

Consulted with banking, manufacturing, and government clients in 12 countries. Specialized in the financial services industry and managing deregulating environments. Transferred to Europe in 1989 to assist clients in preparing for the common market integration.
