About Beth Mcgee
My career goal is to positively impact others through education, research and design that is focused on sustainable, biophilic, and evidence-based design. I have focused on workplace and branded environments in practice and my research focuses on biophilic interior design and healthcare design research. The further development of what I have termed biophilic interior design has resulted in the elaboration and testing of the Biophilic Interior Design Matrix to aid in design and evaluation of spaces for nature-based features. This has been shown to serve both students and practitioners in supporting evidence-based design. My recent experiences being both an interior designer and educator have grown my passion for design and for helping future designers to see how design can positively impact the world through sustainable human centered design. My design interests include community-minded and public interest design that are mindful of how important it is to create healthy, beneficial spaces for us all to live, work and play.
Listed skills include Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Photoshop, Design Research, and 30 others.

Full-Time Lecturer
This job included a full-time teaching load of one studio course and one support course for the undergraduate Interior Architecture program. I also supervised the Materials Resource Library and a staff of six in order to support the sustainable learning initiative of the program through our up to date and sustainable library of books and materials. I also managed the student run social media outlet, the iblog and inews. This position also included supporting continued personal research projects and allowed for the integration of evidence-based design research into the students' creative process. The goal for including research-based design in education is to inspire and enhance the learning experience while also postively impacting the future through interiors that are more sustainable, supportive, and human-oriented. Recent community minded projects have also allowed for hands-on, experiential instruction that have had a positive impact on my students, such as an interdisciplinary design charrette for a community mural.Refereed presentations:Marshall-Baker, A., Tucker, L., & McGee, B. (2013, February). Biophilia in interior design education and scholarship. Panel discussion presented at the Interior Design Educators Council National Meeting, Tallahassee, FL.McGee, B. (2013, May). Participatory LEED building exercise. Poster presented at the Interior Design Educators Council Regional Meeting, Peachtree, GA.
Graduate Student Assistant
Graduate assistant responsibilities were divided among teaching assistance in the classroom and working in the library. The classroom assistance included three Visual Communications classes and an Environmental Design Studio class. This required teaching in the professor’s absence, assistance with running the classes, student assistance, grading, and assisting with creating new curriculum. Additionally, I personally championed the re-organization of the IARc Resource Library’s policies and processes for the benefit of the student body. It included managing the staff and the resources in the library toward this goal. This sustainable resource library required continuing research of new sustainable materials and completing CSI protocol sheets listing the sustainable attributes for public access on the UNCG library website. Daily maintenance was required to keep the resources current, administrative tasks complete, and staff scheduling/work load organized.
Interior Designer
J.C. White design responsibilities included product specification of walls, floors, and furniture. Individually, I was responsible for multiple high profile clients requiring constant customer interaction, project team coordination, and concurrent multiple project management. Projects include local, national, and international installations with a variety of both government and private industries in corporate, educational, and medical facilities.
Kitchen And Bath Designer
Designed custom kitchen and baths including customer presentations, product specification, and order management. The 20/20 cabinet design/specification program was utilized. Also, I brought in new product lines, including the company’s first solid surface and granite sales.
Gift Registry Specialist
This job required assisting guests with selections using extensive product knowledge and product coordination. Additional assistance of Fine China floor staff was provided for solving customer issues and for additional sales support. Computer issue management, collateral organization, and training others on policy for POS were areas of support I helped with after idenitfiying their needs.
