Elisabeth (Beth) McGrath has served more than a quarter century in leadership roles in higher education to advance participation and success of K-12 and post-secondary students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and careers. Her work at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken and Hudson County, nationally, and internationally, has earned recognition from President Barack Obama and the New Jersey Legislature and resulted in federal- and state-sponsored programs totaling nearly $40 million and benefiting more than 250,000 students. Beth currently serves as Vice President for University Relations and Chief of Staff at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. In this new role, Beth leads university communications and marketing; campus communications; local, State, and federal government relations; community relations; and is charged with building an integrated corporate relations program. As Chief of Staff, Beth manages strategic initiatives of the Office of the President, including the implementation of the university’s 10-year strategic plan.

-Developed/managed local and national programs involving multiple partners, school districts, and geographic locations, including an $11.5 million National Science Foundation Math-Science Partnership grant; a $2.5 million National Science Foundation Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) grant; and a $2.5 million U.S. Department of Defense Systems Engineering Education Research grant. -Managed 17-person staff and annual operating budget of approximately $4 million in grants and contracts (FY2011).-Conceptualized, planned and secured public and private support of over $39 million for various K-16 STEM education and workforce development initiatives involving diverse national and state partnerships.-Launched the Research & Innovation in Engineering Education (RIEE) initiative at Stevens, a capacity-building program to improve undergraduate teaching and learning and engineering education scholarship through the use of research-based instructional practices and an internal catalyst grant program.-Delivered invited talks to international groups including Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago and Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, Turkey.-Developed collateral materials for Women in Engineering Program and Advocates Network (WEPAN) to promote interest and understanding of girls Grades 3-12 in engineering. -Served as key liaison for reporting and project monitoring purposes on government and privately-funded grants and contracts.-Speaker/author on K-12 engineering education; effective integration of technology in schools; technology transfer process in education.-Represented CIESE for Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Mentoring.
