I work within AAAS' Inclusive STEM Ecosystems for Equity and Diversity (ISEED) unit continuing to serve as the director of operations for SEA Change. SEA Change strives to inspire, guide, and support voluntary transformation of STEMM fields in colleges and universities so that the work, products, practitioners, and communities they build exemplify excellence, equity, diversity, and inclusion. I work to refine and enhance the ways we engage with institutions of higher education and support them during the hard work of systemic change.

I direct a diverse array of projects within the Education and Human Resources directorate related to equity and inclusion in STEM; this includes projects serving to enhance science literacy (http://www.scienceintheclassroom.org) and promote culturally relevant and evidence-based pedagogical techniques in STEM education, as well as directing operations for a national initiative to promote systemic, institutional change in higher education (https://seachange.aaas.org). This position serves as a liaison to funders, advisory groups, related AAAS offices, international and national collaborative partners, educators & early career scientists, and representatives across institutions of higher education.

Science in the Classroom (SitC) features annotated primary literature that allows educators to easily incorporate research papers into their curriculum, and provides students with an educational scaffold for understanding the process and nature of science as demonstrated by scientific publications. These annotated articles are frequently coupled with education resources featuring inquiry-based learning techniques.As project director, I:* Conceptualize content, and plan and implement program activities for SitC* Oversee daily operations* Supervise professional and support staff * Solicit input from stakeholders about the long term goals of SitC* Work with evaluators on impact issues* Review and edit science content for inclusion in SitC resources (multi-disciplinary papers across many different fields of science) * Develop strategies for serving needs of different target populations interacting with SitC, e.g., educators (high school, 2-year colleges, those teaching non-majors), graduate students, post-docs, paying particular attention to populations typically underrepresented in science* Promote SitC to national and international audiences, curating collaborations across multiple organizations* Secure funding for SitC and monitor progress of current grants

Provided strategic leadership for GSA’s growing portfolio in education and training as first dedicated education staff member. Worked with GSA staff, leadership, and the over 5,500 Society members to cultivate an educational mission for GSA, subsequently developing, implementing, and executing activities related to that mission—including the creation of new programming for GSA conferences. Provided strategic focus on professional development; emphasized workforce training, women in genetics, culturally-sensitive mentor training, and broadening participation in the field. Spearheaded active partnership with the National Institutes of Health funded National Research Mentoring Network. I taught several sections of Elementary Genetics Laboratory, a basic genetics lab course for genetics and biology majors, and assisted in the redevelopment of several of the laboratory units. I taught Genome Science, a rigorous elective for upperclassmen that incorporated assessment of real data and peer-reviewed literature into required coursework.I worked in Trudy Mackay's lab, analyzing genetic variation in male mating progression in the Drosophila Genome Reference Panel, a set of fully-sequenced inbred lines that capture the natural genetic variation in a population of fruit flies. I also performed an "extreme" quantitative trait loci mapping experiment assessing female mating behavior in Drosophila, trying to elucidate which genomic regions contributed to fast vs. slow latency to copulation.
