Responsible for reviewing and making admissions decisions for international student applicants. Advise, counsel, and inform all international students of the application process, while simultaneously serving as the office’s point person for the International Center to ensure requirements are fulfilled. Work with the International Center team and other professionals in various academic units and Admissions to improve the application process. Conduct a comprehensive initial review of all international undergraduate student applications, recalculating GPAs and reviewing transcripts, to determine the students’ required academic credentials and proof of English proficiency. Student admission decisions are determined from this review, which is then coordinated with the Office of Admissions Processing area and International Center. Respond to all inquiries from prospective undergraduate international applicants, and am on call to perform general counseling duties for freshman, transfer, and returning undergraduate applicants. Am an active member of the International Recruitment Committee and have served on university hiring committees that seek to increase the enrollment and graduation of international undergraduates at the University of Louisville.

Conducted Family Language Interviews and screening with international students to assess their English language level communication skills; Provided coaching support to teachers who instruct English language learners; Conducted Observation and Feedback cycles that were strategy-focused to help address and improve ELL’s academic needs. Was a testing administrator and proctor for state and national exams, to include: ELPT, LEAP, CLEP, and ACT; Taught the newcomer ESL I class, and was an active member of the Instructional Leadership Team.

Taught multiple levels of English to Emirati military servicemembers in the United Arab Emirates; designed and implemented communicative lessons in a highly intensive program using curriculum from the U.S. Department of Defense; created shared resources; regularly counseled and advised students to attain positive outcomes; worked directly with managers to facilitate student placement, material creation, and daily organizational challenges.

Instructed English classes for students in the Food Service Management Department; selected appropriate curriculum and oversaw its implementation; instructed numerous courses focused on listening and speaking skills; coached student teams who competed in a university-wide English speech competition; ran a biweekly conversation club; prepared students for international internships in hotels in the United States, Guam, and Singapore.

Instructed English to foreign students with various language skills from around the globe; prepared students working to transfer into a US university by focusing on academic reading, writing, and grammar; and worked as a student advisor for afterschool fieldtrips.

Helped elementary teachers find appropriate assessment materials and assisted them in utilizing the Literacy Development Center’s resources, which aided the teachers to tutor elementary students in an after-school reading program.

Collaborated on curriculum and exam development; met with students upon request; and graded all written work, including final exam papers.

Taught both Korean children and adults English language skills to prepare them for advanced studies, increased fluency, and improved daily usage.
