I managed projects that contributed to the successful implementation of the Consumer Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy in collaboration with relevant THO North personnel. I managed projects that contributed to the successful implementation of the learning and development components of the THO North Workforce Plan. I ensured that agreed targets, milestones and standards of allocated projects and subprojects were effectively and efficiently met. I participated in communication strategies to ensure good knowledge and involvement of stakeholders in various projects associated with the Consumer Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and the THO North Workforce Plan. I worked collaboratively with managers and staff, consumers and key stakeholders, and other team members, in the implementation of work plans to support the goals and objectives of the Strategy and the Workforce Plan. I ensured project documentation was controlled and managed effectively, and provided timely progress reports to the relevant committees and personnel. A highlight for me was the establishment in 2014 of the first ever Northern Community Advisory Group, an eclectic mix of consumer representatives from across the North. It continues to this day as an advisory board and remains vibrant by all accounts.

I provided high level advice to the Minister for Health about issues related to the Minister’s Health portfolio and planned and coordinated any required strategies, solutions or approaches needed to deal with identified issues and emerging problems. I contributed to policy planning and development, including presenting ideas with a political viewpoint in mind which may extend the existing range of options available to the Minister from other sources. I provided high level advice to the Minister for Health on the introduction of Tasmanian Health Organisations, including providing insight into difficulties which may be encountered, and recommendation of possible solutions as required. Kept abreast of developments and emerging issues inside and outside of Tasmania with the potential to have a significant impact on the responsibilities of the portfolio. Provided a high quality service to the Minister, including the responsibility to advise the Head of Office of any case where there may be perceived breach, or a likely breach, of the Ministers’ obligation to provide factual information to Parliament and to abide by Cabinet conventions. Liaised with government agencies, stakeholders, business, industry and community organisations as required. I undertook research and developed policy ideas, solutions and recommendations.

I was in this role for just over 12 months on a contracted basis from the DHHS, and both embraced and indeed met the brief given to me by the Board of Cornerstone Youth Services on my commencement – namely to achieve positive growth in organisational resources and capacity; meet and exceed contractual requirements and overall create a cohesive, functioning and fully-staffed team with a ‘core business focus’.I oversaw a multidisciplinary team comprising GPs, nurses, psychologist, alcohol & drug clinicians and other allied health workers (social workers and OTs), and administrative support personnel. I also was responsible for the smooth facilitation of services provided through co-located services both government (DHHS Alcohol & Drug Service and Mental Health Service, and CRS Vocational Support) and non-government (Anglicare Supported Youth). The goal of headspace is to encourage help-seeking behaviour by young people in the 12-25 age group with mental health disorders and related substance abuse – a one-stop shop where there is in effect ‘no wrong door’.I effectively managed the human and financial resources of the organisation and led in its consolidation and growth under the Cornerstone banner. My past experience ably equipped me to support and nurture the development of a strong sense of community ownership through marketing and promotion of the Cornerstone/headspace Northern Tasmania brand with key stakeholders, funders and clients, and I was then, and remain, passionate about engendering a culture of safety and quality in clinical and client service delivery.
