Surrounded by the perpetuated images of media dictated beauty, it has become increasingly difficult to accept the beauty inherent in each of us. As an artist, and a woman, I have formed a creative practice that incorporates an array of mediums working in unison to proclaim a message of self-love. Building upon my own life experiences, I celebrate the female body. In a time burdened by systemically ingrained notions of beauty, wellbeing, and success these falsehoods leave us feeling inadequate. The work I create becomes a rallying cry for female empowerment and the need for increased societal empathy toward the growing issues of mental health. What comes to life are tangible works that are deeply inspired by the body, movement, and performance. Drawing on an art historical lineage of body art, like Yves Klein and David Hammons, I create intimate looks into the ever changing body. Mixed media, paintings, and digital illustrations all surround my signature body impressions. Bordering between the abstract and the naturalistic, my work engages the physical body to capture the raw truths of the individual. Rich saturation of colors, captivating textures, and even other pressed items or painted features allow each individual element of the body to be elevated. Capturing what a brushstroke alone cannot, the reality of natural beauty is unmasked, uncensored, and unfiltered, rejecting the unrealistic standards of today. Just as I have actively worked to escape the social pressures that have impacted my health and happiness, my work invites others to shed their insecurities and explore their true authentic selves. The connections I build inspire others to discover confidence in themselves, find peace, and liberate themselves from the societal constraints that leave us vulnerable. The layered nature of my art allows each individual to uncover a revitalized sense of compassion, not only towards others but towards themselves.
