Since graduating from the University of Tulsa in 2018, I've been working my way through my career to figure out what it is I really want to do!One thing I am definitely sure of is that I want to work at a university!I began my journey a few months after graduating college with my tribe, Kiowa tribe of Oklahoma. Here, I was immediately given a chance to prove myself in the position of Job Placement and Training Specialist. While working under a director, I was put in charge in two programs: The Direct Employment Assistance and the Adult Vocational Training programs.For both of these programs, I handled the recruiting, event traveling, applicant screening, application processing, budgeting, rewarding of stipends, various administrative duties, and applicant follow up.During my three years at the tribe, I cemented my desire to work with students but I realized I wanted to work in an academic setting.I enjoyed my time in Tulsa from attending college so I decided to move here. It was the perfect choice as it's a city I was already familiar with and not too far away from my home. I was able to pursue my desire to work at a university by landing a job at OSU-Tulsa. The experience and knowledge I've fostered at my current position has been invaluable. Not only has it assured my that I'd be happiest working in academics, but that there are so many facets of a university left for me to explore. I'm working in Admissions now, but I wanted to know what it's like to be working in financial aid, advising, the colleges, student services, etc. I wanted to find the place that's best for me.Fast forward to now and I've narrowed down my options to the library. It was like a light bulb moment. I'd love to work at a library! I love to seek out information, to know little details of a project. I'd like to attribute this (not to be too dramatic) life changing realization to the library staff at OSU-Tulsa as now I'm preparing myself to attend graduate school next fall at the University of Oklahoma for my Masters in Library Science and Information Studies with a focus in Data Analytics. An academic library, of course, is where I'm aiming to be.Well, until I get my degree, I still have my old goals. I'd love to be involved with an area that personally interests me! One that can help me grow my skills and knowledge of a subject.I'll keep striving higher and harder to learn not just about myself, but about all the different ways I can assistant students on their own journeys!
