As Senior Attorney with EFE's Abuse Investigation Unit, Miller brought visibility to their work by taking the lead on litigating cases for their disabled clients in a variety of settings. Examples of such litigation are listed below. ✦ Ensure compliance with Federal and State statutes applicable to EFE, the Protection and Advocacy Organization in Illinois.✦ Investigate and protect individuals from abuse and neglect in all settings providing services to persons with disabilities. Observe/investigate sites where dangerous conditions, practices and fundamental rights’ violations exist. Investigations include: obtaining and reviewing medical and employment records; reviewing reports related to abuse and neglect; interviewing witnesses; collaborating with public investigators; sharing findings and recommendations with state agencies, service providers and the public.✦ Represent individuals with disabilities in guardianship proceedings to remove abusive guardians, restore rights, and advocate for better living conditions, including obtaining Orders of Protection.✦ Challenge restrictions placed on individual rights and conduct trainings on the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code.✦ Access programs and facilities to provide information about EFE’s services, with a focus on mental health facilities; conduct intake and provide referrals.✦ Represent individuals in administrative hearings relating to involuntary discharge from facilities; file and participate in administrative appeals of surveys conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health which failed to substantiate unsafe conditions of the facility.✦ Participate in writing Amicus briefs in federal court.✦ Monitor individuals‘ transitions from State operated facilities into the community, making recommendations to the Department of Developmental Disabilities to ensure successful placement.

Northern District of Indiana granted Alro’s Motion for Summary Judgment, 02 C 585, and affirmed on appeal, 04-2879 (7th Cir. 2005).Walworth vs. Papa Johns PizzaDefended a Papa John’s Pizza restaurant against three plaintiffs alleging sexual harassment and retaliatory discharge. Uncovered facts during discovery that discredited all three plaintiffs ending in dismissal of the case in the Northern District of Illinois.
