I served in a full time, residential national service program (AmeriCorps) where I traveled around the United States as a member of an eight person Disaster Survivor Assistance Team (DSAT) to assist the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local municipalities before, during and after a disaster. I organized disaster preparedness workshops for young adults in the Los Angeles County, and registered survivors affected by tornadoes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and floods in Detroit, Michigan. I worked with the Facilities Manager and updated floor plans for the FEMA Region 7 Office in Kansas City, Missouri.My additional team responsibilities included community outreach such as setting up recruitment events, writing press releases and finding volunteer opportunities for my team. I was also the Assistant Team Leader and helped with the weekly progress reports, finances and acted as a liaison between the team and the Team Leader.
