• Responsible for oversight of all clinical trial operations through hands-on management of functional group leaders of project management, site management and monitoring, data management, statistics, imaging, clinical event adjudication, and regulatory services.• As a member of the DCRI Executive Team, contribute to strategic planning within and across all Key Research Projects (business units) of the DCRI, with special focus on the Trials Research Domain (clinical trials business unit).• Responsible to meet or exceed Trials Research Domain targets and goals across all four quadrants of the DCRI balanced scorecard – Operational Effectiveness, Human Capital Development, Financial Solvency, and Academic Impact. • Accountable for justifying, building, and directing essential internal infrastructure required for delivery on operational aspects of clinical trials.• Responsible to ensure that expectations of progress are effectively established and understood; collaboration is fostered at strategic and daily operational levels; resources determined to be critical are justified and made available or developed; specified goals of the DCRI are achieved; and achievement of goals is effectively and strategically developed and communicated. • Responsible for review and approval of budgets for new proposals within the Trials Research Domain and for addressing any customer satisfaction issues that would arise over time.• Attend to the entire institute, its perception within and its contribution to the larger environments of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute (DTMI) and Duke University. Serve as diplomat for and model of clinical research and translational science progress in all professional settings.

• Provide expertise and lead a team of professionals with primary responsibilities for business development, marketing, communications, and contracting and strategic alliances. • Plan and direct all aspects of business development policies, objectives, and initiatives, including assessment and development of new market initiatives, new business opportunities, and new partnership strategies to maximize therapeutic area diversification, growth, and profitability.• Plan and direct all aspects of development and implementation of marketing strategies and marketing communications.• Maintain acute familiarity with institution’s operations in order to lead change initiatives to maintain market competitiveness.• Participate as an executive team member to ensure the organization’s health and continued prosperity in the areas of academic integrity, financial solvency, operational effectiveness, and human capital development.
