I teach English, both functional and GCSE, to Engineers who are studying on a Multi-skilled or advanced programme in Electrical, mechanical or Fabrication/Welding. I am also their Safe Guarding lead and have vast experience in this field.I have also, in the last 2 years, taught GCSE English to learners at Endeavour as night classes; with a good success rate.

Market Weighton, East Riding

I was employed through North Yorkshire authority to work with a foster child who had ADHD and Conduct Disorder. My role was to increase his level of literacy and numeracy skills and to socialise him into classes. When I first started he only attended 10% of his classes having lessons 1-1 with a tutor. However, by the time I left he was accessing all his lessons and his literacy and numeracy levels had vastly increased.

Hmp Everthorpe, South Cave

I worked as an English teacher, teaching offenders Level 1 and Level 2 English and entry level for offenders with poor literacy skills at Everthorpe Prison in South Cave. Everthorpe is a Cat C working prison therefore, all offenders have to be in some form of training or education. The prison offers courses in: Engineering, construction, plumbing, ICT, English, Maths and Art.Working at Everthorpe was very challenging but also rewarding and I feel I achieved a good success rate with my learners with the academic and soft skills.

Whilst working for Manchester College I was also asked to deliver a new unit for a Public Service course for East Riding College. This was only for one semester working with a level 3 class of 20 students.

Sutton Place, Hull

As their English teacher I taught students aged eleven to sixteen years of age. However, many of the children that enter the secure unit had a lower attainment attributable to a child of a much younger age. This can be due to a number of reasons for example, learning difficulties/disabilities, lack of school attendance over a consistent period of time, behavioural difficulties, family and environmental factors. When first starting at Sutton Place I had to teach AQA GCSE English language at foundation level to a group of challenging students however, all but one achieved Grade C. I also helped in Sutton Place’s English progress tracking for their last Ofsted inspection and we achieved ‘Outstanding Overall’ with the progress tracking being highlighted by Ofsted.Sutton Place was a multi-disciplinary setting therefore; I worked with a wide range of professionals including Health, Social Services and residential care worker, the Youth Justice Board and Education. I regularly attended education meetings and it was also my role to write monthly Educational Reports for the students’ monthly DTO, L.A.C, S.A.R reviews and initial meetings; regarding their English progress and behaviour/attitude towards learning in a classroom setting

I taught children from secondary to A level age who had: emotional, behavioural or eating disorders at The West End Health Trust Unit. The unit was set up for children mainly living in the East Riding who had various mental health issues that needed to spend some time in a safe, residential unit to receive counselling, medical assessments and also education.My role was to make sure that the children carried on with their education; following the national curriculum whilst they were being assessed and treated.I had to liaise with various schools across the East Riding, have regular multi agency meetings with parents, social services and medical staff representing education and set up ILP for each student.
