When you’ve spent more than 30 years in Oil and Gas, trying to deliver strategic objectives on time, improve safety and operational rigour in challenging locations like the Sahara Desert, you learn to approach problems with a different ‘hat’. Overcoming challenge requires a level of resilience, determination and integrity that even in the most difficult of situations, will guide strategy and identify solutions. It’s shaped who I am today: for me, there are no ‘unsolvable’ problems, just opportunities to enhance, develop and survive. Holding a 27-year career with FTSE20 Oil and Gas company, BG Group, I have built a reputation for embracing difficulty and a proven track record in transforming multimillion dollar exploration projects in the UK, EMEA and China. Building on a career platform as a Chartered Geologist, through a succession of appointments in strategy, commercial leadership and programme management I have developed a broad set of skills spanning change, organisational design, stakeholder management, Government and JV/partnership relations, corporate governance, safety and risk management. In a sector that is experiencing significant economic challenges, my value lies in my ability to reduce costs, mitigate risk and build partnerships that deliver sustainable operations. I lead by example and create safe environments based on transparency and collaboration. My preference is to empower the problem solving capabilities of others to find the ‘how’ behind the solution so that enthusiastic young professionals are given the opportunity to develop as future business leaders. In addition to my successes in Oil and Gas, I am passionate about applying my expertise in strategic leadership, risk management and corporate governance to support organisations as a Non-Executive Director.
