Responsible for Cuso programs in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia, with an international staff of over 100 professionals, and a total annual budget of approx. $25-30 million/year. Responsible for the resource development team, with successes including new funding from EU, WFP, UNHCR, Swedish Aid and Global Affairs Canada. Overseeing the MEAL team and process, aiming to deliver and measure high impact programs. Developed Cuso’s new Strategic Plan 2021-30. Also responsible for the Volunteering for Development (V4D) program, which is a core Cuso pillar, having deployed over 40,000 highly qualified volunteers to 100 countries over 60 years. Key programming areas for Cuso include maternal health, education, economic development, refugee and migrant support, and human rights.

Led 45-50 professionals in diverse teams, including Strategy & Partnerships, Resource Mobilization, Advocacy & Communications, NLIFT, Health Economics and Nutrition Technical Assistance (NTEAM). The Strategy component of S&G included ensuring that NI’s strategies and implementation and execution plans were clearly defined, coherent with NI’s Mission and Values, and tailored to the specific needs and capabilities of country, regional and head office staff and teams. Another objective, Growth, was to help NI grow in influence and impact, which included broadening the donor base and revenues through effective partnerships, advocacy and positioning to achieve greater health and human capital impacts. Achievements included crafting and rolling-out NI’s new 6-year Strategic Plan, new Investment Case for Nutrition, building new sub-units and decentralizing decision-making to enlist regions and countries strongly. S&G also doubled the donor base and led the development and raised over CAD$300 million of new funding for the 2019-2025 period.

Managed and, through close teamwork, completed and claimed some of the largest R&D projects in Canada and several other countries in collaboration with Deloitte’s national network of professionals. My teams focused on R&D claims and audit defence in manufacturing and processing industries, including in energy, pulp and paper, cement, aluminum, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, life sciences and food & beverage processing. The Deloitte Ottawa team was also a leader in helping high-tech companies in the hardware, software and telecoms sectors among others. R&D claims ranged in size from $5 - $ 100 million. I also led international R&D claims of multinational corporations in France, Belgium and Brazil, developing an understanding of the technical aspects of these industries along with knowledge of the broader business environment within which clients operated. Managed several engineers, scientists and certified accountants in high-impact teams and co-led the Eastern Canada SR&ED and Government Incentives practice.

Oversaw country operations including 5 offices and over 15 programs in Water & Sanitation, Health, Agriculture, Nutrition, Disaster relief and Gender-based programs. Increased country revenue four-fold, obtaining new funding from several donors including USAID, USDA, UNICEF and the World Bank. Deepened relationships with main aid organizations including USAID, EU, Zambian government and several others, and Africare Zambia co-led the largest HIV/AIDS program in Southern Africa, and became known for its innovative approaches to prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS of vulnerable youth.

Founder and president of Malnutrition Matters, a non-profit specialized in local value-added food production using plant-based inputs through the use of appropriate processing technologies. Worked with several donor agencies and organizations to install over 300 systems and help train community organizations in dozens of countries and regions including Africa, Asia and Latin America, and effected royalty-free technology transfers to Benin, Kenya and India. The organization is still operational and has helped deliver safe, nutritious value-added foods to over a million children, youths and adults, many of whom are nutritionally vulnerable.

Focused on the design, fabrication, R&D and licensing related to soymilk and soyfoods technology. I helped introduce the technology to more than 40 countries. Began with a staff of three and helped build to 12 people with sales of $10M/year. Responsible for engineering and marketing, coordinating the program for a number of regions, including Russia and the CIS, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Africa. Technology transfers to Russian and Indian partners and oversaw the commissioning of soymilk and soyfood plants in Canada, the UK and Russia. Also responsible for financial management, accounting and government-related assistance programs, working with the Canadian Export Development Corporation, CIDA, the National Research Council and other branches of government. Also oversaw the company’s R&D activities and successfully claimed over $2 million in refundable tax credits from CRA.
