Bill has 35 years’ experience in materials used in lighting, particularly phosphors for fluorescent and LED applications. In addition to his skills in inorganic synthesis, broad knowledge in characterization techniques such as XRD, XPS, UV/Vis/Fluorescence/Reflectance Spectroscopy, and photometry have resulted in over 72 patents granted. He was recognized with the corporate Edison Award as one of the top 9 senior technical contributors to GE In 2017.He co-authored with Alok Srivastava the seminal publications and patents on quantum splitting oxide phosphors that have been cited over 360 times. His expertise in phosphors has also resulted in invitations to present at International Conference of Luminescence, Indian Conference of Luminescence, Phosphor Global Summit, and additional papers at Electrochemical Society, American Physics Society, and Lighting Sources meetings.An interest in spectral tailoring resulted in determining spectral characteristics and materials required to enable the patent and production of Reveal™ fluorescent and LED lamps. He also collaborated with the Lighting Research Center and the US Navy in circadian rhythm modification through lighting. Most recently, Bill has been instrumental in moving GE’s TriGain™ phosphor program from research to production and commercialization. This has included developing diagnostic methods for detecting proprietary processes in materials even after the LED has been assembled.2
